Bridget
Jones’ baby turns the spotlight on Oxfordshire village for trilogy
The Oxford Times – November 4, 2015
The spotlight has been on the quiet village of Swinbrook for the past few
weeks as Hollywood stars moved in to film a key scene in the third
instalment of the Bridget Jones’ Diary trilogy.
Stars Renée Zellweger, who plays the titular Bridget, and Colin Firth, as
her on-screen love interest Mark Darcy, were spotted with film crews and
cameras at St Mary’s Church at the end of October.
The church was picked as the spot for Bridget’s newborn child to be
christened in Bridget Jones’ Baby.
The arrival of such big-name celebrities caused quite a stir in the
peaceful West Oxfordshire village. The Rev Richard Coombs said:
“Obviously it was very exciting for us. I think they liked the layout of
the church and the good light inside.
“It’s got very unusual clear glass in the windows at the east end,
because the original windows were blown out by a German bomb in the
war.”
Linda Baillie, the clerk to Swinbrook Parish Council, said: “It was
great fun to watch. I walked down to watch with my dog and because of that
I sort of got to access all areas. One of my friend’s got to be an extra
in the film as they needed to use her driveway for some of the filming.”
